Just one week ago, we reported how the Ram Trucks company tweeted on how "life's more fun off the beaten path." It was initially thought that Detroit Motor City would be the place of unveiling for the updated 2500 Power Wagon, but the truth of the matter is we've got a 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel pickup.
Like that David Bowie song from 1974 goes like: "not sure if you're a boy or a girl," and truth be told, the 1500 Rebel pushes things further trying to be three things at once: a down-to-earth workhorse, an off-road machine and very comfortable riding truck too.
For the unknowing, Rebel is a historic nameplated previously used by the long-gone AMC and the Chrysler Group. So what's the deal with this 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel then? Well, it may also be a small glimpse of the 2016 Ram 1500 update we are looking forward to arrive sooner than ever.
It's not on par with the 2014 or the 2017 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, that's for sure, but it matches the likes of the Ford FX4 and Chevrolet Silverado Z71 in off-road prowess. Compared to the normal Ram light-duty, the Rebel sports one inch lift for a total of 10.3 in. of ground clearance and 33-inch all-terrain Toyo rubber that envelops black-and-silver 17-inch alloys.
Customers also get a powerdome-style aluminum hood with two great air vents for good measure, while a bash plate and skid plates, along with LED fog lights all come as standard equipment as well. In addition to the aforementioned, this bad boy truck has a very nice cabin, which is adorned with red, silver and black for the plastics, leather and various bits and bobs. Naturally, a big screen Uconnect media system is there too.
The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel will be available in 2WD or 4WD format, with a couple of powertrain options: a 3.6-liter V6 (the good ol' Pentastar) with 305 HP and a meaty 269 lb-ft (364 Nm) or a far more like it 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 395 HP and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of twist. Both motors are coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Going on sale in the second half of 2015, the Rebel comes only in Crew Cab guise with a 5-foot 7-inch bed
The classic crosshair front grille has been swapped for a single-slat black plastic one that reads Ram in shiny, polished chrome. The black theme continues with the front bumper, rear bumper, tow hooks, as well as some black-painted taillight bezels.Customers also get a powerdome-style aluminum hood with two great air vents for good measure, while a bash plate and skid plates, along with LED fog lights all come as standard equipment as well.
