Lifting your truck is one thing, but lowering the Ram 1500 is a bit uncommon. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is expected to follow up on the Big Horn Low Down concept from the 2018 SEMA Show, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
The said concept – pictured in the photo gallery in all its glory – has been brought to the Woodward Dream Cruise for the crowds to see it in the flesh. Brand accessories manager Cheryl Woodworth told Motor Trend that the reaction is good enough for the time being, claiming that a woman who saw the truck called her husband to tell him that she wants a Ram 1500 just like the concept.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is understood to decide the business case for the suspension lowering kit at some point in 2019 or early in 2020, but as mentioned beforehand, nothing is official for the time being. Sitting two inches lower than standard, the Low Down also happens to feature 22-inch alloy wheels and gloss-black detailing with Brass Monkey stripes for maximum visual drama.

Even the fender flares are unique, but the concept also comes with a bright pedal kit, polished door sill plates, a hard tonneau cover in gloss black, and big exhaust tips to bring the point home. It’s a sports truck in disguise, more so if you remember that the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is a rather potent engine in this application.

Motor Trend believes “the performance dome hood might also go into production,” and we wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case for the mid-cycle refresh of the 1500. The light-duty pickup is currently available with a V6, the aforementioned V8, and the EcoDiesel V6 turbo diesel returns for the 2020 model year.

The oil-burning engine claims the highest torque in the segment at 480 pound-feet and the highest towing capacity at 12,560 pounds. As for the biggest surprise of the redesigned EcoDiesel V6, that would be the asking price of $36,890 excluding destination charge. In other words, Ram undercuts both Ford and Chevrolet with their Power Stroke and Duramax options.
