This just in from Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles: Lorenzo Ramaciotti is retiring. In his place, FCA decided to name Ralph Gilles as Chief Designer of the Italo-American consortium. Yes, the Chief Designer has the last word for Fiat-Chrysler vehicles around the world.
Be it a simple Dodge or a full-fledged Maserati, Ralph Gilles will oversee the designing process of every future product. Regarding formed FCA head of design Lorenzo Ramaciotii, has held this position since 2007.

Ramaciotti “cut his teeth” for 17 years at Pininfarina

Lorenzo performed so well during his stay there, the Italian automotive design house’s higher-ups appointed him General Manager of Pininfarina in 1988, and Managing Director and CEO in 2002. Currently in his late 60s, Ramaciotti will continue to lend his know-how to FCA as Special Advisor to the CEO.

As for the newly appointed FCA Chief Designer, Ralph Gilles is a 45-year-old man credited for styling the 2005 Chrysler 300. If you ask us, the most important moment during Ralph’s stay at the FCA is the moment when he was appointed chief of the design team that penned the current-gen Dodge Viper SRT.

Speaking of which, what does the future hold for Ralph Gilles then?

First and foremost, Gilles was previously head of the company’s US marques (Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Trucks). With this change, Ralph’s stylistic expertise will be used for future products from Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Maserati. Therefore, the soon-to-be-unveiled Alfa Romeo Tipo 952 (unofficially dubbed the Giulia sedan by various enthusiasts and publications) is in pretty good hands, as is the gorgeous Maserati Alfieri.
