Ralph Gilles Officially Announces Withdraw from NASCAR

This week, Chrysler Motorsports fans got a really mixed bag of news. Personally, we were really happy with how things are shaping up in the American Le Mans scene. We just can’t wait to see how the new Vipers will stack up against the Ferraris on the track in the coming years.

However, just as things were starting to take the shape of production cars in the NASCAR scene, Dodge has officially announced they are pulling out after the 2012 season is over. The announcement came straight from SRT Motorsports Ralph Gilles, who said the decision was made because they couldn’t find a suitable partner to replace Penske Racing, who now sides with Ford.

Earlier in the week, Penske also made an official statement saying they would stop making those Dodge engines and will switch to working on Roush-Yates for the 2013 NASCAR race cars. Gilles refers to Penske as their once-stop-shop for motorsports, and hints that they aren’t going to come back for the seasons following 2013.

Instead, they are putting their efforts in ALMS, rallycross and other sports. Watch his full statement below!

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
