Tommi Makinen is a 49-year old retired racing driver with a funny accent. However, he's also a Finnish person who knows how to drive really fast and has 4 WRC trophies to prove it. That makes him the perfect man to test out the brand-spanking-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI in our book.
After driving it on the Buttonwillow Raceway in California, the flying Finn is clearly impressed with the chassis, the handling and the delivery of the boxer engine. He even catches a bit of air in it.
"You cannot do any mistakes with this car, they have done incredible work. Always going a step forward and forward, and this is very nice to see from previous models. It's really kind of a car which asks you to please go faster, go faster," Makinen says about the STI.
There's only one measly problem with what Subaru is doing. While Tommi is one of the most successful drivers of all time, most of his driving was done for Mitsubishi. His only notable victory with Subaru is in 2002 at the 70th Monte-Carlo Rally.
But hey, since Mitsubishi has pretty much left the Evo for dead, Makinen probably can't find a lot of jobs promoting that car. Guy's gotta eat, right!
