Rally Driver Tries Out Driving Simulator, Shatters Stage Record

For a long, long time people have been asking how a real-life race car driver would handle himself in the virtual realm. At the same time, the same question was asked the other way around, as in how an accomplished gamer would handle a real-life situation.
While the latter scenario is harder to test, due to legal matters and the fact that there’s a big possibility that the best guy/girl at racing games is both underage to drive and not really passionate about cars, the former is a lot easier to put into practice.

However, there are a couple of prerequisites that need to be met before setting off. For example, you can’t just have a man use a keyboard or a controller when trying to post a record lap time in the virtual realm. Oh no, you need a proper simulator, kind of like what you see in the video below.

As far as we can tell, this is how all racing games should be played, this being a rig made up of three displays, a proper gaming seat, and probably a complete simulator kit made up of a steering wheel, gearshift lever, handbrake and (we’re guessing) pedals.

The man you’re witnessing at play here, though, is not a rookie. At least not in terms of driving, as he is a proper rally driver that goes by the name of Will Orders. He agreed to try out the Dirt Rally game and show us what the rig we mentioned above is capable of.

Impressed? Well, we certainly are and it seems like our good man was not only good at it, he was 15 seconds faster than the fastest time set on this platform, by someone who had probably spent countless hours on it to try and get the best results possible.

At one point, Will even goes off the track but that didn’t hold him back too much, as he managed to get back on the saddle and carry on. Just watching him change gears and using the hand brake makes us want to hop in a WRC car and just slide our pretty wheels off. Unfortunately, we’ll just have to settle for some virtual action, though.
