Rally Australia to Set Up Extra Grandstands for September Event

The alternative scheme by which one gets to host a round in the World Rally Championship these days seems to have worked just fine for the Australian organizers. Actually, it went better than fine, if we're to consider the immense ticket request from the Aussie fans for the event in early September.

Australia will this year return to the WRC calendar after 3 seasons of absence, and the fans will absolutely be there to welcome it. For the first time in the history of the event, Rally Australia will be based in the northern New South Wales region, which left the organizers quite unprepared in terms of ticketing.

The first tickets were issued on June 24 but, needless to say, they've all sold out in a matter of hours. As demand seems to go up day after day, event chairman Alan Evans confirmed that he will give new orders to create some extra grandstands for the fans. According to the Australian officials, such viewing areas for the rally spectators will be set throughout the stages in the Tweed and Kyogle Shires.

According to wrc.com, one of these stands will certainly be set up at the Castrol Edge East, a place where the WRC cars will pass twice during Day 1 of Rally Australia (stages 9 and 10).

Ticket sales are ahead of our early expectations and continuing strongly every day. As soon as it became clear that one of our spots on Friday would fill quickly, we created an additional area and will provide shuttle buses to take spectators in and out,” said Evans.

This is excellent news. Combined with reports we are receiving about heavy accommodation bookings, the strong early ticket sales give us even more confidence Repco Rally Australia is going to be a big success and a credit to the region and Australia,” added the Aussie official.
