Rally Argentina Confirms Changes for IRC Round

This year's edition of Rally Argentina will see some important changes in the event's format, as the South American venue will host a round in the International Rally Challenge rather than the World Rally Championship.

Consequently, the event will be ran on a 2-day schedule, starting March 19, and will include a brand new superspecial stage in Villa Carlos Paz. Actually, the very first run of the Argentine rally will happen on the aforementioned superspecial, on Friday, after which the IRC crews will take the rest of the day off and prepare for the Saturday stages.

The first full day of rallying in Argentina will see the IRC driver tackle the dusty roads of the Calamuchita valley, while the Sunday action will take place in the Punilla valley. The winner of the event will (probably) be known after the second and last running of the Villa Carlos Paz superspecial, which will make for the last stage of the event.

According to the initial entry list, all the championship favorites have already announced their presence in Argentina. In addition, the famous cross-country rally ace Nasser Al-Attiyah – runner-up of this year's Dakar Rally in Argentina – confirmed his debut in the IRC with Belgian team Rene Georges Rally Sport, at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia S2000.

According to a report from Autosport, Al-Attiyah is planning to do more rounds of the IRC this year, but nothing has yet been set by the Qatari driver. Last year, he competed in 6 WRC rounds on a Group N car, and actually scored the best time from all Group N drivers in Rally Argentina.
