Ralf Schumacher Defends Brother Michael after Hungary Saga

Ralf Schumacher finally made his appearance in the media as a defender of older brother Michael, following the intense criticism attracted by the 7-time world champion after his move on Rubens Barrichello in Hungary. The current DTM driver insisted that his brother is sorry for his maneuver and suggested the media & ex-Grand Prix drivers should take a step back from criticizing him.

I think it's absolutely inappropriate when Michael is depicted as some kind of unfeeling robot. That's not Michael. He slept on his manoeuvre and said sorry, for no other reason than he realised his mistake. Everyone should believe him and move on,” said Ralf in an interview with Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

Shortly after the Hungarian GP, in a post-race interview, Schumacher denied having made such a dangerous move on Barrichello, something that he was criticized for by the entire paddock. On Monday however, the 41-year old apologized for it on his personal website, admitting that he may have moved too dangerously on the Brazilian driver while trying to preserve his position in the race.

Eddie Irvine, David Coulthard, Sir Jackie Stewart, Alexander Wurz and last, but not least, Rubens Barrichello have all criticized Schu, but according to his brother these are all racers who have had their agendas with the Mercedes GP driver in the past.

There is certainly a lot of people with history with Michael. It was a tough manoeuvre but it shows how seriously Michael still considers his job. And from a driver's point of view you sometimes judge things in the first moments less dramatically.”

Previously, he was criticised for being too hard and cold, and now his mood is interpreted as a lack of ambition. That's not right. One thing is clear. His return has helped the whole of Formula One, but not yet himself,” added the German driver.
