Twelve. This is how many Bacalar Barchettas Bentley will ever make, each built to the specifications and desires of the customer – that means each of them will be unique. But will anyone of the lucky 12 go for this rainbow-themed exterior we have here?
The car pictured in the main photo of this article is the winner of a Bentley internal competition for employees and their families. It ran during the carmaker’s shutdown period, calling for participants to design their own version, and its results were made public as production resumes.
This is the winner of the competition. The exterior of this here Bacalar supports seven colors from the carmaker’s palette: Dragon Red II, Orange Flame, Yellow Flame, Apple Green, Jetstream II, Sequin Blue, and Azure Purple – you can see each of them separately on different Bentley models in the gallery above.
Of course, a Bacalar with this combination of seven colors will probably not be chosen by any of the 12 customers, but it’s not something we would mind seeing if they did.
The Bacalar will enter production as Mulliner’s return to coach building. The model is considered by its maker the most exclusive car made in the modern era, and is like nothing currently available in the Bentley range.
With a design that draws some inspiration from Bentley's insane EXP 100 GT concept, it comes with no roof to shelter the two occupants from the elements, in true Barchetta style. The driver and passenger, each sitting in their own cocoon are protected by the cabin that surrounds them, with the windshield at the front and the semi-enclosed compartment at the rear.
Power for the all-wheel-drive Bacalar comes from Bentley’s iconic W12 with a displacement of 6.0 liters, linked to an eight-speed transmission and capable of developing 650 hp.
The price for each of the 12 Bacalars is close to the equivalent of $2 million, and all of them are already spoken for.
