Raikkonen Sells Stake in British F3 Team

Many of you probably knew that Kimi Raikkonen is not only a professional racing driver, but also a team co-owner. In parallel to his commitments inside Formula One (and, in 2010, in the WRC), the 2007 F1 champion used to co-own the Raikkonen Roberston Racing squad in the British Formula 3 series.

We said “used to” because the current rally driver and his former partners in the ownership of the team, Steve and David Robertson (who are currently looking after his racing career), have decided to sell their stake in the British squad to former team boss Anthony Hieatt. Consequently, the team will change its designation from Raikkonen Roberston Racing into Double R Racing from as early as the 2011 campaign.

Since we set up the team in 2005 we have enjoyed many highs, including winning the British F3 championship in 2006 and other races, including the most prestigious one in Macau,” said Hieatt, according to a report from Autosport.

The Robertson family and Kimi have been very supportive throughout but it is time for all of us to take a different direction. I know the team goes forward with their blessing and this gives the Robertson's management company the flexibility to work with other teams and will allow us to be fully independent.”

Except for the change in ownership, most of the other coordinates of the new Double R Racing squad will remain the same, with the team keeping its work base at Woking, continuing to run Dallara chassis (a 4-car effort is planned for the 2011 British F3 season) and using HWA-Mercedes engines.

Throughout the team's existence we have been a loyal supporter of the Mercedes F3 engine project. This relationship will continue following a very positive meeting between us in Macau. We have no doubt the battle between Mercedes and VW will be fierce in 2011,” concluded Hieatt.
