Raikkonen's WRC Deal with Citroen Imminent

The initial rumors that suggested Kimi Raikkonen was very close to inking a deal for the upcoming campaign of the World Rally Championship seem to have a great deal of truth in it. According to the official site of the WRC series, the Finnish driver “is understood to be ready to sign a deal with Citroen to drive a C4 World Rally Car on all 13 rounds of the 2010 World Rally Championship.

Earlier this month, we've reported to you that the former Ferrari-an was allegedly offered two deals for the 2010 season: either a part/full time deal with Citroen World Rally Team through sponsor Red Bull, or a racing spot inside Petter Solberg's private team.

Although Solberg has been the most appreciative of Raikkonen's rallying skills – following his first professional outing in Rally Finland this season – the Finn seems to go the Citroen way, especially since it will be energy drink company and personal sponsor Red Bull to set up the whole deal. According to the aforementioned website, a source close to Kimi revealed that “only small details needed to be tied-up before an official announcement is made in the coming days.

Raikkonen's participation in Rally Finland ended badly for the former Ferrari-an, as he crashed out of the race during Day 2 of the event. However, until the point he lost control of his car and ended the rally, he was running in 15th place overall despite an engine problem with his Fiat Abarth Grande Punto S2000.

His performance impressed Solberg so much that the Norwegian was convinced Raikkonen could really make an impact in the WRC if he'll have the necessary time to train.

With the proper practise planning and testing I think he will adapt quickly. He's a very, very good driver, and once he's learned the basics, like how to work with pace notes, I think he will surprise many people,” said Solberg, according to WRC.com.

You have to be on the case and you need some balls. I think it’s all about understanding how to push and Kimi has proved he can do that,” added the former WRC champion.
