Raikkonen Points to German Curse

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen seems to have found the reason why he has such a hard time scoring race wins at the Nurburgring. While giving his fellow drivers a bunch of headaches – see Force India's Adrian Sutil – the Fin is convinced only bad luck prevented him from scoring a good result in Germany.

Looking back to his past experiences at the Ring, where he failed to score a race win even when driving competitive F1 machineries – Raikkonen admitted, via a statement on Ferrari's media site, that “obviously I’m not lucky racing there.”

The curse that seems to follow me in Germany struck again. I finished both races, at the Hockenheim and at the Nürburgring, only a few times. The points I could have gained would have made a difference in the championship’s outcome. On Sunday we had the chance for a good result, but I left empty handed,” revealed the Fin after the race.

So maybe the Fin should have let the Scuderia mechanics in on his little secret regarding his Germany record, in order to make better use of Ferrari's new development during the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. A race that, argued Kimi, is traditionally OK for Finnish drivers, especially if we are to consider the multitude of fellow countrymen expected to make the grandstands at the Hungaroring.

In addition, Raikkonen announced his F60 will feature a new front wing – until now used only by Felipe Massa – that is likely to boost his performances in Hungary. Obviously, race wins are out of Ferrari's reach for the moment, so podiums are the next best aim for the Finnish ace.

I’ll show up with a new rear wing, which worked really well on Felipe’s car and there’s the possibility that we’ll have further modifications. The F60 should run pretty well at the Hungaroring with its many slow corners; furthermore the temperatures should be slightly higher than at the weekend in Germany: it would be great to gain another podium,” added Raikkonen.
