Raikkonen: "I Could Race in NASCAR If I Wanted!"

As we've reported to you earlier today, Kimi Raikkonen doesn't have a clue on what will happen to him – from the racing standpoint – next year. Although he revealed that he has plenty of offers to continue his Formula One career, the Finn admitted he is yet to make a decision on the matter. Or, as he so eloquently put it, he'll make up his mind when he feels like it.

Known to be a rallying enthusiast also, Raikkonen was more than once linked with a future in the World Rallying Championship in recent months. He even contested in his first WRC round this year – his home rally in Finland – but failed to cross the finish line due to an accident in Day 2. However, his great speed (for a newcomer) impressed many driver during the Finnish event.

The latest rumors regarding Kimi's potential destination next year, however, seem to be linked with none other than the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). After Nelson Piquet and Jarno Trulli – who will both test NASCAR machineries later this year – Raikkonen was also asked how he feels about a switch to the famous racing series in North America.

I could race there if I wanted, but I'm not one of the biggest fans of NASCAR,” quickly responded the Finnish driver, when talking to the reporters in Brazil.

With the drivers' market so crowded these days, plenty of drivers have widened their options for 2010. Trulli is already scheduled to test a Michael Waltrip Racing prepared Sprint Cup car later this year, while some sources suggested that Nelsinho Piquet is also aiming for a Sprint Cup spot 2 years from now.

From the Formula One drivers that made the switch to NASCAR in recent years, only Juan Pablo Montoya managed to make a decent living in the series. The Colombian qualified for his first Chase in career this season and is currently 3rd overall in the Sprint Cup classification with 6 races to go.
