Rahal Extends Deal with Sarah Fisher Racing

After initially believed to sign a full-season deal with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing for the 2010 season of the IndyCar, Graham Rahal seems to have prolonged his stay in the series – for at least one more race – with Sarah Fisher Racing. The North American racer signed a deal with SFR back in March which included only the outings at St. Petersburg and Barber Motorsports Park.

However, according to a latest statement from Sarah Fisher, the team has now found some extra financial backing for a 3rd race in the season, namely the street race of Long Beach, California. For the time being, this seems to be the last race in which the 21-year old racer will take the wheel of the SFR-prepared machine, before handing it to Fisher.

His first and only (so far) performance with SFR probably had a lot to do with his getting an additional race to his initial deal, as Rahal drove to a well-deserved 8th place in St Petersburg, recording the team's first Top 10 finish in the IndyCar Series.

Graham had been very excited about the potential of putting this together from the start of his time with the team. I am proud of where we have been able to go in such a short period of time. Certainly the idea of growing a programme past the set budget was a difficult task for everyone involved, but knowing Graham will do a great job on and off the track makes every effort worth it,” said Fisher.

I'm extremely excited to be joining SFR yet again for Long Beach. It is certainly one of the greatest sporting events, and I am just proud to say that I will be returning again,” said Rahal, while thanking Direct Supply and Dollar General for their financial support.

In the meantime, Rahal is yet to secure the sponsorship for a drive in the Indy 500, scheduled in late May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
