Racer Blows His Own Door Off Mid-Action, Still Wins the Fight

We've witnessed our fair share of disintegrating cars over the years of following the drag racing scene, but the racecar we want to show you today brings just the kind of action that serves as a reminder for never believing you've seen everything.
For one thing, drag cars losing their door during races aren't anything new, but this hot rod takes things to a whole new level. At first, it seems like the machine will simply race a Camaro down the strip.

However, as the hot rod starts doing its thing, we can see the door on the right flying off... and then somehow returning to the car. What actually happened was that the skin separated itself from the rest of the door, getting off the ride in the process. This also caused the side window to fall off.

Both pieces were recovered after the race, with the car even managing to trample all over the Camaro during the unfortunate race.

However, it's the owner's attitude that makes us go over this episode with a smile. The man was determined to continue the sprinting marathon that the Draw Week is, so he taped the door back onto the car and continued racing.

Heck, the man was more concerned about losing his Drag Week than anything else. And yes, he did continue to race after the quick fix mentioned above.

Given the extreme soundtrack of the contraption, we have to salute the driver for staying focused enough to even notice anything was wrong.

In fact, this gives us the rare opportunity of estimating how much time such a door loss can cost one when running down the strip.

About 0.8 of a second. We haven't compared the launches, but that's the time difference between the disintegrating run and a normal one for this car. The more you learn...
