Quentin Tarantino’s "Hateful Eight" Shooting Makes Local Snow Tire Business Flourish

Everybody knows that the movie industry is worth billions, yet it appears that even the remote small businesses have a lot to gain whenever a big movie is being filmed in their town. That is definitely the case for Stuart Armstrong, the owner of automative shop Telluride Tire who’s business has increased 25 percent ever since Quentin Tarantino and his crew are shooting the famous director’s latest movie.

The weather has been pretty harsh lately in Telluride, a ski resort located in Mountain Village, Colorado with the city being covered with 2 feet of snow over the weekend. This, however, is exactly what the crew filming The Hateful Eight was looking for, since their movie takes place during a blizzard.

They did stumbled upon a problem which concerned their vehicles that obviously needed some new tires that could face the weather conditions. No problem here, of course, since they just went to the local auto shop and dropped more than $140,000 for about 200 studded and snow tires. How about that for a good business deal, right?

According to Colorado Public Radio, Armstrong says that thanks to the shoot his business is up about 25 percent this year, resulting in by far his best January and February since opening the shop back in 1997. Moreover, the filmmakers have even hired the shop’s mechanics to work during the weekend when Telluride Tire is normally closed.

Shooting the movie in Colorado comes for a reason, since on September 26, last year the Denver Post reported that the state had signed to fund the film’s production with $5 million, which is why the complete movie will be shot in the southwestern part. Even though Tarantino initially intended the script to become a novel - especially that it leaked before he wanted - later he changed his mind and decided he’ll start filming it this year.

Shooting officially began in January 23 and is set for release on November 13.
