Once in a while there comes a time when a great car has to be revigorated. This year, it's the Maserati Quattroporte's time. With the Quattroporte entering its fifth year of production, it was about time we should have seen some changes. As a result, the new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S is the sportiest version of the Italian sedan to date.

While the gorgeous Pininfarina-designed shape remains alongside some minor visual changes, significant modification has taken over beneath the skin of the New Quattroporte. The suspension has been tweaked to make it feel more responsive for sporting drivers.

The Maserati fast-response, active-ride Skyhook has been replaced in the GT S by conventional stiffer-rate dampers and springs which lower the car by 10 millimeters in the front and about 25 millimeters in the rear. The suspensions ending with P245/35ZR20 front and P295/30ZR20 rear Pirelli P Zero tires that have been developed specifically for this car.

The new design of the seven-spoke rims make the Sport GT S look more powerful as well as athletic. Complementary to the new suspension system and tires is an updated braking system which comes from Brembo and has their state of the art dual-cast disc brakes. Front brakes of the Sport GT S are clamped by enormous six-piston calipers which ensure a very short stopping distance (and probably a broken neck if you're not careful).

The 4.3 liter DOHC Ferrari built V8 engine still has its place in the sports sedan. The 393 hp delivered by the engine are transmitted through a six-speed automatic transmission, the Sport GT S abandoning the former DuoSelect automated sequential manual transmission for the ZF-built six speed automatic with torque converter (although it sounds pretty sophisticated, we sure hope it doesn't brake down or something).

The overall package of the Italian Sport sedan is quite impressive and we think that the Quattroporte, with its new upgrade, is ready to reign supreme for another five years.
