QNX Aviage Multimedia Suit Gets Certified by Apple

QNX Software Systems today announced that the QNX Multimedia Suite now offers enhanced support for Apple iPods, which comes to help automotive customers simplify the design of in-car infotainment systems. This will allow manufacturers of in-car infotainment units to complete their "Made for iPod" certifications with less time and effort.

Furthermore, the QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite also supports Apple's Extended Accessory Framework (EAF) for communication with iPhone OS 3.0. This capability allows applications developed with the suite to interact with applications running on the iPhone or iPod touch.

As a result, separate listening zones inside a car, bus, train, or other multi-passenger vehicle can share a single authentication chip, therefore reducing overall system costs.

This feature also allows a home theater system to integrate with multiple iPod applications through a single authentication chip. The suite includes iPod one-wire support, enabling the delivery of audio and video through a single USB cable.

"Support for Apple's 'Made for iPod' program is part of our overall strategy to provide customers with standards-based, certified products that provide assured levels of portability and interoperability, while helping to improve time-to-market," said Andy Gryc, senior product marketing manager, QNX Software Systems.

In February 2009, the company launched the QNX CAR application platform, which has attracted more than 50 technology partners and automotive customers, including Adobe, Cisco, Daimler, Delphi, Freescale, General Motors, Google, Gracenote, IBM, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, Panasonic, Pandora, and Volkswagen.
