Puppy Bowl 2016: Subaru's Family of Lovable Dogs Drive Cars, Melt Hearts

I'm a cat person myself, but even I have to agree that dogs are amazing. Sure, they still need our help going for walks and picking up their doo-doo, but they could be the most adaptable species of animal on the planet. Over the course of just 40,000 years, they separated from wolves and became perfectly adapted to modern human life. Someday, they might even be smart enough to drive cars. What does that have to do with Subaru? Just watch the commercials!

The makers of the Outback and Forester came up with a loveable way to promote their cars during this year's Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. No, not the Super Bowl! An entire family of Labradors does many of the things we do while commuting.

This is a 5-part sequel series to the 2013 “Meet the Barkleys” campaign. And they must have hired some extremely talented dog trainers because the labs take on everything from driving their Subaru around town, trying to get their kids to sleep and even dealing with other canine drivers.

“Subaru and its customers have a deep connection to pets. Eight out of 10 Subaru owners are pet owners, and our brand continues to support the causes and initiatives that our customers care about,” said Alan Bethke, vice president, marketing at Subaru of America. “The new ‘Dog Tested. Dog Approved.’ campaign puts the Barkley family in the driver’s seat to help celebrate this shared love.”

My personal favorite is Doggie Bag (pun intended). Just look at papa dog sitting at the table like a total boss! And after the couple enjoys their date away from the kids, who comes and spoils the romantic mood? The douchey cat valet, of course.

The one called puppy isn't too bad either, as it portrays a tired dad-dog trying to put his pup to sleep using the driving lullaby method.

And the best part is that none of the footage looks like CGI. They must have really put five dogs in a car that's strapped to a trailer and asked them to stay there.

And how about the disclaimer: “Dramatization. Professional driver on closed course. Do not attempt. Always secure your pets.” Okay, we understand the standard word of warning. But how in the world does a dog qualify as a professional driver?
