Puma GTE Sports Car Reborn as Restromod Rendering

Not a classic Chevy or Dodge, the Puma sports car from South America is still loved by a few. This is no Porsche 911, so a restomod project along the lines of what RUF makes is made is possible in the digital world.

The Puma GT series entered production in Brazil around 1965, initially with a DKW front-engined transplant. Later on, help came from Volkswagen in the form of a four-cylinder boxer engine which was moved to the back of the car.

While the reclusive little Brazilian car was a race-only machine at first, road-going versions were produced. In the 1970s, it also reached North America, initially as a fully built car and later as a more affordable kit that lacked the front suspension, wheels, engine, and subframe. The dealers could supply them for you or you could just add your own units, sometimes resulting in GM V6 swaps.

Due to more relaxed import legislation, Canadians bought more of these and production continued right up until the mid-90s. From what we understand, the company has been reborn as is now cranking out cars from South Africa.

But we have something better to look at than a basic 55 horsepower Brazilian car nobody has heard of. We have 3D renderings of a futuristic reinterpretation from Instagram user rob3rtdesign. It looks like somebody just spend Lamborghini money to put something special on the road, something with flared out fenders and a distinct RUF vibe about it.

The Porsche theme continues with the retro 911-style wheels and brown bucket seats. It's got a custom stance, ground effects body kit, halo LED lights and a wing of just the right size and shape. But what would you put in a car like this? Maybe a Subaru STI unit like Beetle owners do nowadays, or a VR6 to keep the VW theme of it all. An Audi engine to have the DKW connection maybe?

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
