PSA EMP1 Platform Will Underpin All-New Premium (Sub)Compact DS Brand Model

This just in from PSA Peugoet Citroen - PSA will start building the long-rumored EMP1 platform at a later date this year. Before we go any further, we have to pose the question “What model is it going to use it?"
Unfortunately, PSA is being tight-lipped at the moment. We’ve been promised that this new EMP1 platform has been attributed to a “new premium compact segment vehicle,” which is going to “extend the brand’s B-segment lineup alongside the DS3.” Again, what future model could it be?

At the present moment, the PSA Poissy plant in France, the place where the all-new model will be built, manufactures nameplates such as the Peugeot 208, Citroen DS3 and the Citroen C3. What these three cars have in common is the gray-haired PF1 platform.

Furthermore, all of them are superminis

So why would PSA Peugeot Citroen build two B-segment-sized platforms at the same time? It’s pretty curious, especially if you consider that the DS3, C3 and the 208 will be replaced in 2017 with new-gen models underpinned by the EMP1. If our hunch is right, then expect to get a DS-branded supermini crossover SUV that won’t cannibalize with the Peugeot 2008 or Citroen C4 Cactus.

We need some help on this one, so we're asking you: what's your take on what Carlos Tavares, the chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Managing Board, declared? “I have come to announce that Poissy has been chosen to produce a new vehicle that will extend our DS premium brand's lineup on the new EMP1 platform.”
