Proton Perdana Will Be Replaced By Nissan Fuga, Only for Government Use

The Proton Perdana’s replacement has been revealed to be Nissan’s 2010 Fuga model, according to Berita Harian Online. However, the report also says that the first shipment of 150 units will be brought in as official cars for top ranking government officials. The luxury sedans will probably replace the aging stretched Perdanas that Malaysian ministers currently use. The Fuga will be used exclusively by the government for now, but the sources say that if the Proton-badged Fuga gets enough encouraging market feedback, the company will consider sales to the public.

The reports did not mention if the Fuga model in question is the first-generation version, in production from 2004 until 2009, or the all-new model currently on sale as the Infiniti M outside of Japan. However, it was revealed that the Fuga will be fully-imported with a 2.5-liter engine, which is most likely the VQ25HR engine producing 225 hp and 258 Nm in its latest form.

The large rear-drive sports sedan is based on the Skyline platform. Current generations of Fuga 250GTs come with a 2.5L V6 mill that develops 225 hp and 258 Nm of torque. Also unrevealed to date is what the Proton-badged car will be called or what styling changes will be made, although with the Fuga being such a complex model, we can't expect much more than badge swapping for now.

This is the first time that the Malaysian carmaker has collaborated with Nissan and sources say that it is possible that some of the Japanese carmaker’s models will be made at Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant, as there’s excess capacity there.
