Project X: BMW Tuning Reaches new Heights

The story of this E53 X5 begins with its end. The car was totaled in a car accident and the owner decided to leave it in the hands of the guys from Fluid Motor Union (FMU) that soon after became the legal owners of the Bimmer. That’s when things became interesting.

The first thing they did was raise it a bit, in order to create a true off-road vehicle. Installing a lift kit, the car’s height increased by 1.5” (38 mm) and even more after the Cragar D-windows wheels, wrapped with Dick Cepek Crusher off-road tires were installed. That wasn’t it though. They went ahead and installed a custom steel front bumper and roof rack, both hand-made out of straight pipes at their shop.

The exhaust system was also hand-made at their headquarters and has a custom X-pipe and backpurged TIG welds along with a WOT box. In this configuration, the new exhaust is perfect for a Mad-Max movie due to its fireball-spitting character.

Looking for even more performance, the guys then turned to the engine. The Bimmer's 4.4-liter V8 engine received a Dinan intake manifold, Okada Projects ignition coils and a FMU custom ECU tune. Further upgrades include E39 M5 front seats, LCI front headlight conversion, Powerflex bushings and Hawk brake pads.

The video below will show you exactly how mad this X5 is. We think it would be the perfect car to have in case of a zombie apocalypse. Not only it will allow you to drive over them but you’ll also be making zombie barbeque with that insane exhaust.
