Project AM-RB 001 Will Be a Hypercar Built by Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing

Yes, you’ve heard that right. Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing are best friends forever at the present moment. Project AM-RB 001 is the name of the hypercar these companies will develop together, a “ground-breaking Aston Martin hypercar.”

Marek Reichman, the man behind the aggressive Aston Martin Vulcan and the forward-looking DB11, is the designer of the upcoming hypercar. Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer, Adrian Newey, joins Reichman in the quest to build “the ultimate hypercar.” Fingers crossed they’ll keep their word.

Red Bull Racing Team’s head honcho Christian Horner had this to say about the joint effort: “This is a very exciting project for everyone at Red Bull Racing. Through this Innovation Partnership the iconic Aston Martin logo will return to grand prix racing for the first time since 1960, and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, led by Adrian, will be harnessing our Formula One DNA to produce the ultimate of all road cars. It’s an incredible project which also realizes a dream and vision long held by Adrian to design a road car. We are very much looking forward to what I’m certain will be a successful partnership.”

Let’s get that straight - Project AM-RB 001 will come to market as a road-legal hypercar, not a track-only machine such as the Vulcan. Considering that Newey is the most successful Formula 1 designer of all time, AM-RB 001 will definitely borrow plenty of aerodynamic black magic from the king of motorsport. These being said, nobody knows what it will look like, what sort of engine, and what kind of performance we should expect from Project AM-RB 001.

The only teaser we have is the image featured above, which - let’s put it this way - doesn’t say much. In my mind, that’s the sketch for a snowboard skin or a tattoo. I have a gut feeling that Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing will continue the teasing game throughout the development process of this thing because the “ultimate hypercar” designation is the ultimate bragging right. On second thought, don’t believe the hype because the Bugatti Chiron is a tough act to follow.
