About a year ago, during the media event marking the start of A-Class production in Germany, Dr. Dieter Zetsche announced that in 2013 the same factory will also be building a new subcompact crossover based on the same modular platform.
A recent story published by CarScoop suggests the GLA will be shown as a concept first at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in April (21-29). The report is based on a statement made by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche's speech at the company's Annual Press Conference in Stuttgart.

"Two months from now, we will provide a first look at our compact SUV in Shanghai [April 21-29]. The world premiere of the series version will follow at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September," doctor Zetsche said.

So, we're getting a concept with a silly name like " Style CrossCoupe Concept" in April and the real deal in September. Sounds like a plan!

We've been tracking the GLA as it evolves from mule to production-ready prototype. The smallest of Mercedes's G models promises to offer something for everybody. At the economy end of the spectrum, Renault-sourced diesel engines are going to offer economy figures the GLK can only dream of, but there could also be an AMG version of the GLA, with lower ground clearance an the same 360 HP 2-liter turbo engine as the A45.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
