Production BMW X4 to Be Revealed on March 6th

Out of all the German premium automakers, BMW seems to be the most fixated with diversity and covering every single niche of the market, catering to every type of potential customer. This can be seen more recently in the compact executive car segment, where the 3er Gran Turismo and 4 Series Gran Coupe have been recently introduced. However, the SUV range isn’t exactly standing still.

There, the X5 is an all-new model, the X3 has just been updated and soon X1 and X6 monikers are also to be renewed. But these are SUV and crossovers you could already buy, BMW’s true innovation being the fist-ever X4.

Originally shown as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show, the X4 is now ready to be revealed as a production model. The simplest way to explain it would be to call it a small Sports Activity Coupe, the size of the X3, but sharing its design philosophy with the X6.

The X4 has been announced for a March 6th official debut during a short teaser video released by BMW on Instragram. That of course means it will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show, followed by a North American debut in New York next month.

It’s been created for younger, less family-oriented buyers who would have bought the X6 were it no so big and expensive. Rivals? Technically it has none, but the Range Rover Evoque and maybe a base model Porsche Macan will make a good match.

The engine range will be a carry-over from the X3, notably also including the latest B-series next generation units. We expect the dimensions of the X4 Concept of last year to carry over largely unchanged, with a body length of 4,648 mm, a wifth of 1,915 mm and a height of 1,622 mm.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
