Production Audi e-tron to Be Called R4

We have already told you that Audi will push the e-tron concept displayed at the Frankfurt Auto Show last month into production but it appears that the company is planning to use a different name for the upcoming model. Autoexpress.co.uk wrote that the German brand intends to sell the production version as R4 and will join the company's lineup between the TT and R8.

The e-tron concept showcased at the show was powered by four electric motors, located two at the front and two at the rear axle. All the four engines generate 313 hp and an amazing 4,500 Nm of torque. In terms of performance, the car could go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 200 km/h (124.27 mph). The range of the super-EV, given by the 53 kilowatt hours battery block stands at 248 kilometers (154 miles).

The batteries can be recharged, from a usual household plug, in between 6 and 8 hours. Audi says it is working on a wireless charging solution, to make the process more convenient.

Specific details on the model to enter mass production are not available at this point but Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America president, told Autoweek earlier this month that the car is expected to be launched in the next 24 months.

According to various reports, some of the technologies seen on the e-tron concept may be used in other Audi vehicles before a production full-electric is officially rolled out. The most likely to get some of e-tron's tech are of course Audi's upcoming hybrids.
