Production 2016 MINI Clubman to Be Unveiled at Frankfurt Next Year - Report

BMW and MINI introduced the concept behind the second generation of the Clubman at Geneva, this year. It was stunning display of technology and proof that size really doesn’t seem to matter in Oxford any more. According to Car Advice, the production model will make its debut in Frankfurt, next year.

Even though we expected the new Clubman to be showing up a bit earlier, at Geneva in March for example, the Australians from Car Advice are adamant that we’ll have to wait a couple more months before we get to see the final version of the six-door car.

Moving a bit further from the original concept that had a weird 5-door configuration, with two doors on the right side and barn-styled ones round the back, the new model will be more conventional, to make up for the mistake the brand made when it went with that design.

“Back then the Clubman in 2007 was the longer wheelbase Mini, which had one additional door. [It] wasn’t really practical, and it’s why it only happened one time,” Mini head of communications Andreas Lampka told Car Advice.

At the same time, some things won’t change. The Clubman will be built on the same UKL platform that can accommodate longer cars than what we’re used to from MINI. The length of the concept showed that 4,223 mm (166.2 inches) is acceptable for a MINI, even though the fans of the brand were reluctant towards it.

As for the technology showcased inside, we’re hoping a lot of it will be introduced on the production model. The new navigation screen, materials used and the layout were really looking enticing and we wouldn’t mind to see them implemented.
