Prodrive Says Goodbye to Naturally Aspirated BMW Engines with Special M3

With the E92 M3 an era came to an end over in Munich. That era was dominated by naturally aspirated engines that used to rev higher than thought possible. In the case of the M3, that engine was codenamed internally S65.

The S65 was derived from another legendary piece of engineering called S85, a 5-liter V10 engine made with Formula 1 technology back when BMW was still involved in the motorsport. With 507 HP and 520 Nm of torque, that beauty could burn through tires faster than you could say ‘stop’.

The units used on M3s were just smaller by 2 cylinders. With a displacement of 4 liters and a V8 configuration, 420 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, there was plenty of power available, at all times, even for a car that weighed well over 1.6 tons.

The guys from Prodrive wanted to say goodbye to this part of BMW’s history and welcome the new turbocharged era kicked off by the S63 engine from the F10 M5 and the S55 unit introduced on the M3 and M4 of today.

Therefore, they created a custom Mineral White E92 and dressed it to the aces. The masterpiece on it is a set of ADV.1 wheels. To be more precise, ADV5.2 TS CS wheels with a titanium finish for the faces and a gunmetal finish for the lips. Measuring 20x9.5 inches up front and 20x11 inches at the back, you can rest assured that this car won’t ever lack traction. That’s unless you want it to, of course.

Other aftermarket parts include a full Brembo Big Brake kit, Vorsteiner's GTSV front bumper and an RKP lip as well as a vented bonnet.
