Private Owner Turns BMW M2 Into a Real “Hommage” via M2 CSL Turbomeister Edition

Back in 2016, the German automaker showcased at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este a "bite-the-back-of-your-hand M2 on steroids" concept – the 2002 Hommage. Then, for the year’s Pebble Beach Concours, the automaker changed its livery for the "stand-out in any crowd look of 'Turbomeister.'"

Jump forward in time to the final days of 2020, and here we have a BMW M2 that pays proper homage (pun intended) to both prototypes thanks to a private owner. It’s not any private owner, though. Going by the shmarc150 moniker on social media, Marc Rutten is actually the manager of renowned vlogger Shmee150.

Because he’s also a proper automotive enthusiast, his 2018 BMW M2 Competition has gone through countless modifications even before embarking on its latest – and most epic – journey. For example, its weight has been lowered by no fewer than 110 kg (243 lbs), while the performance credentials have been dialed up to 520 horsepower and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque.

Now, the car has gone through a mind-boggling transformation, making it a street-usable counterpart to BMW’s official 2002 Hommage Concept from 2016, the one dressed up with the special “Turbomeister” livery.

It was all done with the help of British PPF and detailing specialist Topaz Detailing, a company that’s also no stranger to encompassing transformations. If we remember correctly, we previously saw them rework Jay Kay’s Porsche GT3 or turn the Brabus 800 Widestar into a golden G63.

Because Topaz also has an encompassing social media presence, we also caught wind of the behind-the-scenes video (embedded below) showcasing the entire process. So, if you want to check out the looks of the white M2 before turning into the M2 CSL Turbomeister Edition, just listen to what Nabil Naamo has to (enthusiastically) say before the 3:15 mark and then meet him again from the 14:35 mark.

Tucked in between is the detailed showcase of the transformation. It's revealed step by step, from the disassembly of body elements for painting, right down to the way all decals have been embedded below the lacquer coating.

By the way, the owner does promise the work on the project isn’t done yet, as he strives to “continue to interpret and connect to the true heritage of the Turbomeister livery and the lightweight essence of the CSL brand.”
