Pristine Mercedes 250 SL Pagoda Offered For Sale by Kahn Design

In Mercedes-Benz's long and illustrious history, a handful of models became instant classics. 300 SL Gullwing, Silver Arrows, 540K, 600 Grosser, there is a lot to like about Mercs of old, but the previously mentioned are too expensive for us mortals. But the W113 SL is pretty affordable these days and it's very easy to maintain. And the Pagoda top is to die for.

Excluding the top-of-the-range 280 SL, the W113 generation can be had for pennies in 230 and 250 SL guise, but we warned: don't go for a rusty old bucket or one that has problems with the gearbox. These kind of operations take a lot of money and specialized help to boot. The best way to go is a mechanically sound example of the breed with no rust at all. It doesn't matter if the paint is faded a little or if the pagoda top has seen better days.

However, Kahn Design is offering for sale a very spectacular 250 SL. Though the price is available only if you give the British tuner a call, you need to know that restoration work alone amounts to more than £90,000, or the price of a good condition Jag E-Type Series 1. Being a 250 SL, that means you get a 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder with 250 ponies, as well as a four-speed automatic transmission.

The restoration bill also includes a comprehensive rebuild of the engine, which has been run for just 3,876 miles (6,237 kilometers) since then, so the car is pretty sound and can take a lot of abuse if you're a bit of a lead foot. That lovely anthracite grey exterior finish contrasts beautifully with new, high quality leather dressing much of the cabin.

Even the wood inserts are new and faithful to the original design, while the Becker Mexico 7948 radio is as original and in working condition as they get. Kahn Design says that the right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz 250 SL is located in Leeds.
