One of the patrol cruisers from the Princeton Police Department is being mistaken for an ICE car to such an extent that the department felt the need to set the record straight – publicly, no less.
As President Trump’s war on illegal immigrants continues, as does the controversy around the policy to separate children from their parents at the border, ICE cars are oftentimes not a pretty sight. In this context, it would make sense for the police wanting not to be associated with ICE.
After all, police are here to serve and protect the public, not make members of the public flee in fear. So, after one too many cases of mistaken identity, the department is going on social media to clear the air once and for all.
Their cruiser is receiving a new decal job and that’s why one of its sides reads “ice” instead of “police.” However, the situation is temporary.
“There have apparently been some people who have mistaken our recently repaired patrol vehicle as an Immigration Customs Enforcement Vehicle. The repaired truck in the photo will be receiving the rest of its decal this Friday,” the statement says.
To make things easier for locals, the department is including photos of actual ICE vehicles, which, as you can see in the images at the bottom of the page, are blue, white and gold.
“So as NOT to be confused, we are posting photos of the actual Immigration vehicles and our own patrol vehicles. Though you may see older Princeton Police vehicles that are blue, gold and white and still others that are black and yellow, our official colors are the traditional Black and White with the Princeton Police written out,” the statement further explains.
Princeton is part of the “Welcoming America” program, but has seen several ICE arrests in recent years, as it’s happened in other cities with known immigrant communities.
