Party like a rock star is no longer a thing because 2020 keeps progressively getting worse, but you could still get the second best thing to it. RVs, vans, overlanders and motorhomes of all kinds are having quite the moment, and this bus formerly used by Prince fits right in.
It’s a 1983 Eagle Model 10 Motorcoach and was used by the legendary star and his band, The Revolution, for the Purple Rain Tour that followed the 1984 release of the album of the same name. Prince being the prince of all things purple, you probably know what to expect heading into this: a purple tour bus.
You’re partly right, as the motorhome, able to sleep six people in total comfort, with a full-size bath and a generous kitchen and dining area, is furnished in different shades of purple and even has purple night light. That said, seeing how this was one of Prince’s rides, it could have been a bit more… purpley.
Offered by Mecum out of Houston, the motorhome is in excellent condition, mostly due to the fact that it was only used privately once Prince was done with it and has been stored indoors. It features a master bedroom with a king-size bed, two bunk beds and one couch that converts into a double bed. There’s plenty of storage space, a bathroom with shower and toilet, kitchen with oven, sink and separate fridge and freezer, and office space with seating decked in quality leather.
Sure enough, this pales in comparison to other celebrities’ current rides, but it’s still lavish and comfortable-looking. Not to mention the stories it could tell if it had a mouth.
Powered by a Detroit Diesel 6V92 turbocharged engine mated to an Allison automatic transmission, the bus has power steering, captain’s chairs sourced from a private jet, and a PowerTech 20KW diesel generator that runs off main fuel tank and is good for 1,700 hours. Inside, there’s air-conditioning and newly-installed flat-screen TVs and stereo system – separately for the master bedroom and the rest of the cabin.
Mecum doesn’t offer a price estimate for this purple bus, so if you’re interested, you’ll have to tune in for the auction running December 3 through to December 5.
