Scandal in the British Royal Family. Just this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex came under heavy fire for flying a private jet for the second time in as many weeks, while on vacation, despite their stance as eco-warriors.
Today, Prince William and his wife Kate are doing just the opposite of that in order to get to Scotland, where they’re supposed to be meeting the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral. They flew budget, with the discount airline FlyBe, just like the rest of us, regular folks.
Available at the bottom of the page is a video of the royal couple, the future King of England and his spouse, together with their 3 children and Kate’s mother, as they’re being escorted off the plane, towards their chauffeured ride.
According to the Daily Mail, they were so discreet while on board that none of the passengers was the wiser. Translation: they didn’t cause a fuss about their status as members of the Royal family, didn’t get extra security and they definitely didn’t get preferential treatment.
“The family were sat right at the front. I fly this route all the time and we were none the wiser. No-one knew they were on the flight,” one passenger tells the publication. “Later on I realized that Kate's mother was sat a few rows in front of me.”
Earlier this week, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan caused quite a media frenzy when they were seen getting off a private jet in Nice, France. Singer Elton John came to their defense saying that the private plane was his and he had offered it to the couple because they obviously couldn’t fly coach because of who they were. He also said the flight had been rendered “carbon-neutral” through a donation to a cause that would offset the carbon print made by it, which was slammed as a load of poo-poo by environmentalists and regular people alike.
Other celebrities chimed in to say pretty much the same as Sir Elton: members of the Royal Family couldn’t board a regular plane, with regular people because of safety concerns. Enter Prince William and Kate to prove all those people wrong.
In case you didn’t know what a smart PR move looks like, here it is:
