Ford Transits are usually preferred for van conversions because they are affordable compared to other bigger options out there. But this particular build was not exactly on the budget-friendly side, although the end result makes you agree that the investment was all worth it.
The 2020 Ford Transit conversion you see in the images proves once again that downsizing doesn’t always mean you have to compromise in terms of luxury and comfort. This house on wheels belongs to Tim and Katie, who spent a total of $80,000 on it. They bought the vehicle for $50,000 and poured $30,000 more into the conversion process.

Although it doesn’t show one bit once you step foot inside the tiny house on wheels, this was a DIY project, with Tim and Katie doing all the work. It was a process that took around seven months of work and what makes everything even more admirable is the fact that neither of them had any building experience, so they pretty much had to learn everything on the go. They earn their living as physical therapists and building the van was a side project for them during the global health crisis.

The Ford van was converted for both shorter and longer trips, although, given how gorgeous it looks and how well equipped it is, it could easily serve as a full-time living space. Starting with the exterior, the van now has a spacious roof deck where you can lounge and take in the surroundings. The roof, which is accessible via an extendable ladder, comes with five solar panels installed, each able to produce 100W.

As for the interior design of the Transit, it is a clean, modern one, from the kitchen to the bedroom. You can see a lot of wood elements used throughout the van, from the Baltic Birch base cabinet in the kitchen to the butcher block countertop, wood ceiling, dining table, and more.

Tim and Katie went with a large kitchen with a deep sink, a 12V fridge with freezer, an induction cooktop, and plenty of storage space.

Overhead cabinets on both sides of the van store all the couple’s things, from electronics to toiletries, clothes, and more.

The sleeping area in the back comes with an RV-size queen bed with bump-outs at each end. Each bump-out comes with a small window and controls for various electronics, such as switches for the overhead lights and for the floor heating (yes, the van comes with heated floors).

One of the best features of the Ford Transit van conversion is the fixed, recirculating shower that only uses around three gallons (11 liters) of water. Toilet-wise, they went with a slide-out Dometic cassette toilet, which is hidden in a drawer in the living room area.

A very spacious garage stores 34 gallons (128 liters) of fresh water, all the electrical systems, and an outdoor shower system.

You can take a tour of the gorgeous house on wheels in the video below.
