Wouldn’t you just love to take this bad boy for a spin?
Several years ago, Ralf Eggl founded Woidwerk in Viechtach, Germany. His workshop deals mainly with BMW’s machines, but will gladly customize just about anything that has two wheels and an engine. As time went by, the Bavarian firm amassed a plethora of delightful projects, each and every one of them boasting countless unique features that’ll have you awe-struck.

To give you a better idea as to what these Germans are all about, we’ll be taking a closer look at one of their marvels. As I was browsing their portfolio, a menacing colossus, named Smith.001 gripped my attention. It is based on a BMW R nineT and does a great job at demonstrating what Woidwerk is capable of achieving. Needless to say, this thing looks seriously rad!

Before we go into any details about the meticulous surgical interventions that led to Smith.001’s brutal aesthetic, we’ll kick things off by reminding ourselves about what the donor is made of. I’ll have to point out the obvious and say that BMW’s R nineT is one hell of a ride straight out of the box.

It is brought to life by a feral DOHC flat-twin engine, with a compression ratio of 12.0:1 and an astronomical displacement of 1070cc. This fiendish piece of air-cooled machinery will deliver up to 110 hp at 7,750 rpm, along with a crushing torque output of 86 pound-feet (116 Nm) at around 6,000 revs. A six-speed constant mesh transmission is tasked with channeling the behemoth’s force to a shaft final drive.

The powertrain is nested inside a tubular steel frame that rests on 43 mm (1.7 inches) inverted forks up front, while its rear end is supported by a fully-adjustable Paralever monoshock setup and a cast aluminum swingarm. At the front, braking duties and taken care of by dual 320 mm (12.6 inches) floating rotors and four-piston calipers, coupled with a single 265 mm (10.43 inches) disc and a two-piston caliper on the opposite end.

BMW’s monstrosity rolls on a pair of 17-inch cast alloy wheels, enveloped in top-grade Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact rubber. Without going into other details, it’s quite safe to conclude that R nineT is a genuine showstopper. As such, it only made sense for Eggl to transform it into a rugged leviathan that begs you to twist that throttle with confidence.

For this ambitious undertaking, he teamed up with a friend and former customer, by the name of Thierry Schmitz. The duo began by installing a set of ABM Sportclip handlebars and replacing the bike’s round headlight with that of a BMW R1200R. You will find new grips and M-blaze bar-end turn signals from the Motogadget inventory.

Furthermore, Smith.001 wears a curvy one-off saddle and an angular tail section that keeps things looking muscular. Woidwerk were able to accommodate these fresh components without having to tweak the subframe, which is rather convenient. The custom tail houses an LED lighting package, neatly incorporated into its design.

In terms of powertrain upgrades, the 1070cc mill is allowed to breathe with ease, thanks to an Arrow exhaust system and a hand-crafted air intake cover. To top it all off, these components received a coat of black paintwork, while a Luxembourg-based street artist was tasked with finishing the fuel tank in a truly outstanding pattern.

Right, now that we’ve wrapped this up, I’d encourage that you head over to Woidwerk’s Facebook and Instagram profiles, as Smith.001 is just one of many works of mechanical art in their range. Let me tell you, these folks are not playing around!
