Since you can now buy quite a few cars which have the capacity to drive themselves on the highway, it’s not hard to imagine what the technology may progress into, in the coming decades.
With scientific progress increasing exponentially every single day, autonomous driving systems will definitely find their way into more and more cars, and according to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), cars fitted with such systems will make up 75% of all cars on the road, by the year 2040.

Being a mere prediction, it should be treated as such, yet the IEEE members do have a point, and with car safety coming into focus strongly, within the last ten years, it will be the next obvious step towards making cars safer.

Now, since we are already experiencing a increase in the number of cars which can drive themselves now, the next 10 years will prove or disprove the claims of the IEEE, which we say may prove to be accurate, in the end. Autonomous Emergency Braking is also gaining acceptance, and its importance is being recognized, and chances are that other similar systems will follow.
