Extremely cool as the Russian NLO Predator helmet was, it lacked one major feature, and that was certification. After becoming an internet sensation, these radical helmets confronted their customers with the impossibility to wear them, lest fines came their way. NLO has learned its lesson and the new Predator 3 and the restyled Predator 4 lids are now street-legal.
The trick was simple and it involved making a smart choice: starting off from a certified helmet as the basis for the new designs. So NLO chose a Nolan helmet as the starting point, and leaded a structure made of fiberglass and carbon fiber over it. The Nolan helmet remains unchanged and this ensures that homologations also remain valid.
Aside homologation, the wider view was the biggest concern when wearing a Predator helmet. Thanks to the new design, both the Predator 3 and 4 come with a 50% wider field of vision, adding to the wearing comfort and safety. Also new is the new visor system, which can now be effortlessly operated with one hand. It slides up into the helmet body when raised and does not affect design or safety.
The Predator helmets come with 20 13-inch-long (33cm) nylon dreadlocks and the latest addition to the NLO customization options is the canines chin design, an extra $95 (€68) perk. LEDs, laser, scars, airbrush and more are also available.
NLO’s Predator helmets are however neither cheap, nor light. Predator 3 is $780 (€560), while the restyled Predator 4 is $810 (€580). Worldwide shipping is however, free.
