BMW’s all electric 1-Series Coupe-based ActiveE, along with the Z4 are being recalled due to a potential steering issue. The total number of vehicles being recalled is 162, as variations in the electrical power of the system, causing it to instantly lose assistance, making it very difficult to control the car.
This does not sound safe at all, but since it affects so few vehicles, it couldn’t really be called a recall. It could have been called a recall if it would have only affected the ActiveE, of which 700 have been made so far, and 162 would have represented a significant part of the entire production run.
However, it does not sound like something which can’t be resolved with a simple software update or some other minor repair job. At least their future offerings will surely not suffer from the same problem, as BMW have definitely learnt how to prevent it from happening in the first place.
