A new line of Puma shoes by Porsche Design is coming and it’s a fast one, as strange as it may sound. Inspired by the 911 Turbo, it will be available online for as little as 2.7 seconds.
Generally speaking, Porsche Design merchandise can stand out from the crowd on its own, but a gimmick like this will definitely not hurt. For the latest partnership with Puma, which comprises eight different sneakers under two “collections,” Porsche has decided on making the products available for the time it takes the 911 Turbo to get to 60 mph (96.5 kph) from a standstill: 2.7 seconds.
Here’s how that will work: in a little over three days, as of the time of press, a buy button will appear under each of the eight models. It will be live on the Porsche Design and Puma websites for just 2.7 seconds, which means you have to be very fast to add your desired model to the cart. After that, you’ll have 15 minutes to complete the purchase, which will set you back $150 for one pair.
“[The button] will only last for 2.7 seconds. The same amount of time it takes the 911 Turbo to go from 0 to 60 mph. Like the 911 Turbo itself, you better be fast,” Porsche Design highlights. The good news is that you have three full days to decide which model you want, to expedite the process.
As noted above, eight models are included in the line. There’s the Air Cooled collection, based on the Puma Future Rider sneaker, and featuring models inspired by the air-cooled 911 Turbos, Type 930 3.0 L and 3.3 L, Type 964 and Type 993. Then, there’s the Water Cooled collection, based on the Puma Speedcat shoe and inspired by the water-cooled 911 Turbos, Type 996, 997, 991 and 992. Colors are also directly inspired by the classic 911s.
“When Porsche approached us to design a capsule to celebrate the iconic 911 sports car, we were immediately taken by the idea,” Anja Enja Egger, Head of Business Unit Marketing Puma Motorsport, says of the latest collaboration.
The 911 Turbo-inspired shoes go live on November 17. In case you’re not as fast as the car itself, worry not: you will also be able to buy a pair (or several) at the Puma flagship store in New York, the Porsche Design stores in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston, and the Porsche Experience Centers in Atlanta and L.A. And you won’t have to race against the clock to complete the order.
