Because it’s brand new, the Porsche Macan range of models looks fairly incomplete compared to the other cars from the Stuttgart automaker. You can have it as a Macan S with a 3-liter V6, An S Diesel with a 258 hp V6 or get the Macan Turbo with… you guessed it, another V6, this time producing 400 hp and capable of 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
That’s fast for an SUV weighing nearly 2 tons, but it’s not totally out of the reach of its competitors, which is what some Porsche customers expect. Rumors about a new, sportier Macan have been around for quite some time now, but they’ve been interpreted as a GTS model.
On June 24th, this video of a Macan test prototype was taken at the Nurburgring by our friends at TouriClips. The vehicle is clearly based on the Turbo model because of the quad exhaust with trapezoidal tips (S and S Diesel models have round ones). Most likely, Porsche wants to make this into a Turbo S model with somewhere in the region of 440 hp from an updated version of the same 3.6-liter V6 as the normal Turbo.
On the track, the Macan Turbo S is acting just like a sportscar, letting the tail slide a little wide in a controlled fashion. The big surprise is that they haven’t fitted carbon ceramic brakes yet.
Of course, power isn’t the only thing that will define the Turbo S. If you look closely enough, you’ll spot the camouflage on the headlights, meaning a better LED system is under development.
Development should be finished in 2015, with prices in Germany starting in the region of €100,000, a relative bargain consider this 4.7 meter SUV is also great as a family car.
