Normally, most German carmakers wait for at least a couple of months between a new model's unveiling and the date when said model reaches showrooms. That is not the way of Porsche, apparently, who has unveiled the 2017 Macan GTS this morning, a date that coincides with its market launch.
Technically, the model is obviously based on the Macan S, but with just about everything turned up a notch to make it slightly more track-focused. Powered by a mildly tuned version of the 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 from the S, the Macan GTS' mill develops 360 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

Paired as standard with a seven-speed, dual clutch transmission of the PDK variety, dynamic all-wheel-drive and Porsche Traction Management (PTM), the model does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 5.2 seconds, while top speed is 256 km/h (160 mph). Those opting for the optionally available Sport Chrono Package, the 0-62 mph time drops to 5.0 seconds flat.

The standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system has been tuned to offer a sportier ride and 15 mm lower ride height compared to the Macan S.

In short, the new Macan GTS will need a keen eye to be visually differentiated from a Macan S fitted with some Porsche Exclusive parts, but if you know what to look for, it has plenty of unique features.

Typical GTS visual motifs include 20-inch RS Spyder design wheels in matte black paint, a special version of the Sport Design styling package and black exterior accents in either high gloss or matte black, all of which give the new model a rather frightening stance. Another premiere is represented by the optional full-LED headlights, which should further enhance the look of the model while increasing safety during night driving.

The interior greets you with standard GTS sport seats, a lot of Alcantara splattered all over the place, including the seats' center panels, the new Porsche Communication Management with a touch-screen display that was first previewed by the 911 facelift (991.2) and a host of standard features such as digital radio, front and rear Park Assist, a multi-function steering wheel with gearshift paddles for the 7-speed PDK transmission, electronic tailgate opening, USB port, and Bluetooth connection.

The optional Connect Plus module comes with online navigation with real-time traffic information and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay. The 2017 Macan GTS is already available for ordering in Europe from October 28, with UK pricing to begin at GBP 55,188.
