Porsche Unveils Goodwood-like Sculpture of 911s in Zuffenhausen

Remember Goodwood and its traditional sculpture or monument that has a different theme every year? With Mazda being the official sponsor this year, we got to see some of the Japanese manufacturer’s models up high in the sky on the grounds of the Festival of Speed a couple of weeks ago. Now it seems like Porsche is following the same route.

The German manufacturer just unveiled a sculpture by British artist Gerry Judah located on the Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen, Germany. Looking at the picture it may seem like a rip off of what the Goodwood FOS welcomed us with at first, right? Well, that’s because Gerry is the one that designed both, believe it or not.

In Zuffenhausen though, he used three different 911 models, from different eras, to celebrate the first such car ever built, back in 1963. The sculpture is actually made up of three pillars that go as high as 78 feet, each of them sporting a Porsche at the very tip.

The presentation of the “Inspiration 911” sculpture took place today and was done using a combination of lights, film and vehicle choreography. The Porsche Museum’s façade was used as a screen where various clips were projected across what was a 2,100 square feet display.

Of course, the cars pinned at the top of the sculpture could be missing from the, an F-model from 1970, a G-model from 1981 as well as the newest version of the 911. To top everything off, one of each model currently built by Porsche was brought out for the audience.

“The sculpture that we present today is more than a work of art. It is also a symbol of our company’s close ties with Stuttgart,” said Matthias Mueller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, said during his address at the event.

By that, the Porsche executive was referring to the recent investments his company did in the greater Stuttgart area, adding up to over one billion Euros in the last few years alone.
