Porsche Unveils Android Smartwatch Face

Some people afford auto-inspired watches, say the Timepiece No.1 from Porsche Design or even one of those exclusive IWC Watches designed by F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Others, however, are into digital gadgets and they prefer a smartwatch. Here’s where Porsche comes in.

Why buy a really expensive wrist watch when you can simply upload the Porsche Smartwatch face in a matter of seconds. “Inspired by the definitive Porsche aesthetic of tradition and innovation, its sleek and minimal design transforms with the race season’s racing days, synchronizing Porsche fans around the world”, that’s how the app is marketed on the Google Play store.

The new design is sleek and minimalist in style, or at least that’s what it’s supposed to look like, and, according to the Stuttgart-based luxury carmaker, it’s “inspired by the definitive Porsche aesthetic of tradition and innovation”. Since we’re old conservative bastards who rather like mechanical watches, there’s not a lot we can say about this app.

There is, however, a cool side of the story. During the FIA World Endurance Championship, the display will transform by outlining the host track of a given week. That’s Porsche’s way to unite their fans around the world, they say.

As for specs (sort of speak), the Android smartwatch app allows the user to access navigation and weather, use voice search, control music, set reminders and check commuting times all from you wrist. And guess what else it does? Tells time, of course. Oh, and it’s free.
