Porsche to Unveil Facelifted Cayman/Boxster in LA

Even though Porsche has postponed the diesel Cayenne to March 2009 (initially due to release at the Los Angeles Auto Show), the German manufacturer prepares a bunch of new goodies for visitors attending the event, including the popular Porsche No. 1 and Porsche 550 Spyder. Moreover, all the models showcased by Porsche at the LA Auto Show will include significant new features, the carmaker said in a press release published on the official website of the event.

The 60-year-old Porsche No. 1 will be surely one of the main attractions displayed at Porsche's stand, being mostly known as the first mid-engine car that worn Porsche's signature. In addition, the German brand will also display the 1955 550 RS Spyder sports car which, according to Porsche, is on loan from the special collection of Jerry Seinfeld.

“Porsche will take the wraps off its next generation mid-engine sports cars at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. These new cars will come with Porsche's new engine and transmission technology as well as many other significant technical and exterior refinements. Also, for the first time ever at an auto show in the U.S., Porsche will display the initial car to carry the Porsche name and first mid-engine-a historic 60-year-old vehicle known simply and affectionately as Porsche No.1,” Porsche said in a statement released to the press.

Last week, Porsche said the diesel Cayenne would be unveiled in March 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show due to a so-called market strategy, imposed by the already-scheduled for Los Angeles Porsche Cayman. Basically, Porsche intends to maintain market interest on the refreshed Cayman with a potential diesel version of the Cayenne likely to attract an important segment of visitors, detrimental to the mid-engined sports car.
