Giving us yet more reason to believe the rear-wheel drive turbo-powered 911 GT2 is dead, Porsche has once again let slip details about the new GT3 RS, a more hardcore version of the already hardcore GT3. The car is apparently headed for a summer 2014 debut and will be lighter and more powerful.
The report from AutoExpress says we should not expect a 500+ hp monster, and this is totally reasonable considering how much work already went into the 475 hp version of the 3.8-liter currently powering the GT3. The RS is said to receive only a slight bump, and knowing Porsche that means +10hp from a slightly better titanium exhaust system.
Since the RS will be a glorified track car with road tires, there's absolutely no chance of a manual gearbox ever being offered. In typical Porsche fashion, the RS will be more expensive while offering much less. The interior will be reduced to seats and a roll cage, body panels will be replaced and the rear glass will be thinner. Every little bit helps!
