Ladies and gentlemen Porschephiles, with this week's Los Angeles Auto Show set to bring us the debut of the 2020 Porsche 911 in Carrera (S) form, we're here to remind you that Zuffenhausen engineers are currently engaged in testing other prototypes.
And the piece of spy footage at the bottom of the page delivers a brilliant sample of this. The clip, which comes from the Nurburgring, shows the 2020 Porsche 911 Turbo and the Taycan test cars doing their thing at the Nurburgring.
The video is focused on the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo, but you'll get to check out the chase promised in the title at the 2:45 point of the video.
Note that the Taycan we have here comes in pre-production form, with most of the elements hidden under the black tape (this is Porsche's favorite camouflage scheme) set to make it into the showroom.
In fact, those of you who want to find out more about the Taycan and the benefits of its 800V hardware (most current EVs come with 400V systems) should check out this story.
Returning to the Neunelfer, this video allows you to notice the active aero of the 2020 911 Turbo. To be more precise, the front lip spoiler and the rear wing can be seen in both retracted and go-hard modes. And while none of this is new for the 992, Zuffenhausen engineers might also pack other active aero tricks.
On the firepower front, the rumor mill talks about the retirement of the TT 3.8-liter flat-six heart of the Turbo, with an all-new unit expected to meet the ever-stricter emission targets.
As for the 911 Turbo S, the rumor mill goes even further, speculating that this will morph into the Turbo S E-Hybrid, as in the case of the Panamera and the Cayenne.
Then again, Porsche has only confirmed the hybridization of the 992, without delivering further details. So we might only get a 4 E-Hybrid model delivering Carrera S level of performance.
Regardless, we might have to wait for the ".2" mid-cycle revamp to receive the plug-in hybrid version(s) of the new Porsche 911.
