Certain hypercars are sold out by the time they get to set wheel in the real world, but, as it turns out, the Porsche 918 Spyder isn’t one of them. Porsche’s hybrid hypercar, which is set to arrive in September, is still looking for customers.
At a price of EUR645,000 (plus VAT) or $845,000, one could say that this is a logical pathway, but that isn’t true. For example, Ferrari received even more orders for LaFerrari than the production run of the vehicle.

However, Wolfgang Hatz, the man who leads Porsche’s R&D offensive, believes that sales are guaranteed once the potential customers get behind the wheel. The company is still experimenting with the prototypes, so nobody from outside has driven the car so far.

“When the first cars are ready, and the customers can drive them, I am confident we will sell them all. Already we have sold more 918s than we had at the same point in the launch process with the Carrera GT, so we are confident,” Hatz said at the Shanghai Motor Show.

The executive explained that the Porsche 918 shouldn’t be compared with models such as LaFerrari. He said that the 918’s core is the technology and this is something people have to experience in order to fully understand.

We’ll remind you that the Porsche 918 Spyder promises to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds while being able to return 78 mpg ( 3 l/100 km).
