Porsche Reportedly Preparing Diesel Boxster

In case you think there's something wrong with the title, the unusual association of the Boxster and diesel terms, it's not. And it may become a popular syntax as soon as 2011 if the newest rumors prove to be true. Because we were mentioning about the rumors, you should probably know that German car manufacturer Porsche may prepare a diesel variant of its new generation Boxster due to arrive in late 2011 or early 2012.

And there's no unusual thing in this strategy as Porsche is quite an experienced company when it comes to diesel engines, with Cayenne set to arrive in global authorized dealerships in February and Panamera to reach mass-production in 2009. But even so, a diesel Boxster sounds uncanny, don't you think?

According to the guys at Global Motors, the diesel Boxster may be powered by a VolkwagenAudi 2.0-liter engine boasting a maximum power of 204 hp. Although information is quite limited for the time being, Porsche is already testing the next generation Boxster so it's probably on schedule to launch in 2011.

Getting back to the Cayenne diesel, Porsche recently announced that a diesel version of its premium SUV will arrive on the market in February 2009. The Cayenne diesel is powered by a Volkswagen 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 240 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque.
